Mandatory Hiring Rate


Companies must hire a certain percentage of disabled people based on their size of employees number (mandatory hiring rate) under the law called "shougaisha-koyou-sokushin-hou"(Handicapped Persons' Employment Promotion Act).  

The mandatory hiring rate has been raised from 2.0% to 2.2% as from 2018. Therefore, a company that hires more than 46 (45.5) employees must hire disabled people. At the same time, under this regulation, mentally challenged people (including developmental disorders) are to be included in addition to physically and intellectually challenged people. The mandatory hiring rate is expected to be raised to 2.3% by April, 2021.
